Located just outside Soufrière in the tiny community of Chateau Belair, this short, sweet hike comes with a jackpot of panoramic views, local history, and zero risk of getting lost in the jungle. It’s like nature’s version of a guided VIP tour.
The Tet Paul Nature Trail is just under a mile long and can be completed in about 45 minutes—unless, of course, you’re stopping every five seconds to snap photos. (You will be.) The trail weaves through a working organic farm and a peaceful hillside covered in tropical plants, medicinal herbs, and fruit trees. If you’ve never seen a tree literally growing breakfast—bananas, avocados, guavas—this is your moment.
What sets this trail apart is its perfectly placed lookout points, offering unbelievable views of Gros and Petit Piton, the Caribbean Sea, and even neighboring islands like Martinique and Saint Vincent on a clear day. If the weather is cooperating, the photo ops are practically mandatory. You might want to practice your “epic stare into the horizon” pose before you go.
And then there’s the trail’s most famous section: the actual Stairway to Heaven. It’s not particularly long or steep, but it gets its heavenly nickname from the way it seems to ascend directly into the clouds, framed by the mighty Pitons on either side. It’s one of the most Instagrammed spots on the island—and for good reason. Even your phone will feel more photogenic here.
Best of all? The trail is guided by friendly locals who grew up in the area. Along the way, they’ll share stories about traditional St. Lucian life, farming techniques, herbal remedies, and more. It’s the kind of experience that adds heart to the hike and makes you feel like more than just a tourist.
Tet Paul is an ideal outing for families, couples, and solo travelers who want big payoffs without having to trek for hours. It’s also a fantastic choice if you want to experience the majesty of the Pitons without climbing them (no shame in that game—we’ve seen those Gros Piton stairs, and they don’t play).
Hot Tip: Wear sneakers or sturdy sandals, and bring a few EC dollars to tip the great guides. Oh, and try the local juice at the snack shop after your hike—it’s heaven in a cup.
