This lush, six-acre paradise just outside of Soufrière is a haven for anyone who loves vibrant flowers, tropical plants, and waterfalls that look like they were photoshopped by nature herself.
Originally part of a French estate gifted by King Louis XIV (yes, the Sun King himself), this garden has been around since the 1700s. Fortunately, you don’t need to know your royal history to appreciate the magic here. As soon as you step onto the shaded paths, you’re greeted with an explosion of tropical color—bougainvillea in hot pinks and reds, towering ferns, and orchids that seem to wink at you as you stroll by. It’s basically a real-life Eden, minus the forbidden fruit (unless you count the occasional mango tree).
At the heart of the gardens lies the stunning Diamond Falls, one of the most unique waterfalls in the Caribbean. It’s not your average whitewater drop—thanks to the island’s volcanic minerals, the falls shimmer in shades of yellow, orange, and deep gray. The colors change slightly depending on the mineral content that day, so it’s kind of like nature’s mood ring, but way more photogenic.
While you can’t swim directly beneath the falls (nature reserves have rules, and we respect her boundaries), you’ll still want to linger. There are benches for sitting, gazing, and contemplating whether you could pull off moving to St. Lucia full time. (Answer: Yes. Yes, you could.)
The gardens also include historical ruins and mineral baths that once served soldiers and settlers seeking healing. Today, these baths are open to visitors, and soaking in them is like taking a warm, mineral-rich hug from the Earth. It’s a great follow-up to the Sulphur Springs mud bath—or a peaceful standalone spa moment.
One of the best things about Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens is how accessible it is. The paths are easy to navigate, and it’s great for families, couples, or solo wanderers channeling their inner plant nerds. You don’t have to be a botanist to enjoy it—but if you happen to know your heliconias from your hibiscus, prepare to have a field day.
Hot Tip: Go early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds. And don’t forget your camera—the lighting near the waterfall is perfect for dreamy, drippy selfies.
